Wednesday Club

Back in 1960 a parish group was established to provide a vehicle for talks and social functions on Wednesday evenings. This was the Wednesday Club. Time moved on, the format changed, but the title stayed. The current format was  developed by Peter and Mary Northover, who personally planned, tested and organised summer Saturday afternoon outings for all ages and especially families to join in. The outings continue, but are organised by individuals – supported by a committee. The Christmas fair provides a fun social occasion and the funds raised go towards sponsorship of outings – particularly to encourage families by easing the cost; any surplus goes to fund improvements in the Northover Hall.

The “Club” in the title is for camaraderie, friendship and doing things together – NOT for exclusivity. No membership - all are welcome.

Our first outing for the 2017 “Summer” will be on Saturday 27th May. We shall visit  Glendalough, for its history, antiquities, fresh air and picnic tables (for lunch). Then on to the Devil’s Glen for some nature, ending up at the Chester Beatty in Ashford for our afternoon tea. All welcome.

To beat the crowds at Glendalough, we shall meet at 9.15am at the Church, with picnic lunches and everyone, neatly packed into our cars. If you would like a lift, please contact Olga.

The cost will be €12 per adult and €5 per child, to include admission charges and afternoon tea. We do need to make the booking in advance, so, please let Olga Stewart (2859552) know, by Wednesday 24th May, if you can come and how many you will be.
